The Pastoral Care committee is looking for caring individuals, who are willing to make home visits, provide transportation to those who have the desire and capability to come to church, send cards and letters or make occasional phone calls just to say hello.
In the future, we will be organizing some formal training for individuals who may want to get involved at the diocesan level as well. We have recently been doing some of this work and it has been both inspiring and fulfilling to see the immeasurable amount of gratitude there is for such a small piece of time. We hope to expand this outreach initiative.
Inreach Ministry Needs You! 2011... Gloria Deis Inreach Ministry has been going strong for about a year now. In that time, we have focused our efforts on providing regular transportation to and from church events (Sunday worship, Vestry meetings, Lucia Fest, etc.) for a half dozen members. We are currently in need of some additional drivers, so if you are interested, please speak to me after church or contact the office and leave a message. This can be as big or small of a commitment as youre interested in making. Ideally, we would have a list of eight to ten people who are available to provide transportation, so that those who need rides can make calls until they find someone whos available.
Also in the past few months, thanks to an idea by Paula Minacci, weve started making and freezing meals to be given to members in need within our parish. In late fall, Tiia Reinvald and her Sunday School class generously donated their time and talents to make some chicken soup and biscuits, which was a great way to jump start this area of ministry. We can always use more meals to store in the freezer in Riverside Hall. If you happen to have leftovers after a big meal, box them up in a container you dont mind giving away and bring it with you on Sunday. If youre feeling more ambitious, you could organize a small group of folks to plan and cook a meal together at someones house or in the kitchen in Riverside. Or you could volunteer to deliver these meals to our members in need. As you can see, there are several ways to get involved in Inreach at Gloria Dei. Other needs (such as a food basket at the holidays and toys for some of our children at Christmas) continue to come to our attention and require some new energy in order to come to fruition. Please prayerfully consider sharing your time, talents, or treasure in some capacity and contact me if youre interested. We need you!
Sincerely, Megan Bartlett
